Ginseng Energy Drink

If you look closely at Energy drink labels, you’ll often see panax ginseng as a main
ingredient.
A great way to get ginseng, right?
Wrong.
Energy drinks are often full of sugar and caffeine, which will get you feeling buzzy, but can lead to a crash. Also, many companies, even those based in North America, are using Chinese ginseng--the ingredient label will read panax ginseng, and not panax quinquefolius, which is North American ginseng.
So, how do you get the energy you need for a workout or a busy day? Read on for a
healthy option that is caffeine-free, contains naturally-occurring electrolytes, has no
added sugar and has the farm fresh ginseng boost that will offer long-lasting,
sustainable energy.
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 Citrus or Floral tea bag (I like Tazo Wild Sweet Orange or Hibiscus)
½ cup coconut water (for the naturally occurring electrolytes)
1 tsp ginseng powder OR 4 slices of softened ginseng root
Ice cubes
Instructions:
1. Boil water and steep tea.
2. To the steeping tea, add 1 tsp of King Lake Farms ginseng powder OR soften
King Lake Farms root by steaming for 20 minutes (pro-tip: save the water in the
pot to drink later) or popping the dried root into the microwave for 30 seconds
and slicing. Add a few slices to the steeping water.
3. Wait 5 minutes.
4. Remove the tea bag (and ginseng slices, if used. The powder will dissolve).
5. Fill a tall glass with ice and add coconut water.
6. Pour tea into the glass with coconut water.
Enjoy!
